Coyote Alert

5/30/08 - We would like to update everyone on the latest developments on the situation concerning aggressive coyotes in our area. In light of the recent incidents, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will begin tracking coyote sightings. You may report a coyote sighting at the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline at (888) 404-FWCC (3922). For more information, view the recent article from the Naples Daily News at www.naplesnews.com/news/2008/may/28/wildlife-officers-will-now-respond-coyote-attacks.

Tips:
- Carry a golf club/large stick, a flashlight and a noisemaker when walking about the community.
- Always be aware of your surroundings.
- Coyotes are most active at dawn and dusk. Avoid walking pets at this time, if possible.
- Try to avoid walking near ponds, preserve areas and dense vegetation.
- Keep pets on a short leash, and always in front of you. Never lose sight of them.
- If a coyote approaches, pick up your pet, yell and make noise. Stand tall.
- Secure garbage cans and do not leave pet food outdoors, including your lanai.
